'Peace be upon you' - Puffins class explored what symbols of peace Christians may have, and then designed their own symbols of peace.

Year 2

In worship, we listened to Mabel and the Mountain – about a fly who challenged herself to climb the mountain. We discussed all the ways we have challenged ourselves already in Year 2.

We then read a quote together “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right” and unpicked what this meant. We decided on some things we think we can achieve this year, and wrote these on wishing leaves to release into the world on a sunny day!

“I believe I can go swimming when I’m in the sea!”
“Dear God I believe I can be a good friend.”
“Dear God, I believe I am able to get better at colouring.”
“I believe I can get better at spellings.”

This week we tried jousting, a lot of the children were nervous for this as they didn't think they could knock off the bean bag from the pole. As a year group we spoke about believing in yourself, just like the knights used to do when they were jousting. We also, spoke about how God believes in us every single day which gives us the strength to also believe in ourselves. .

“God believes in me and so do I.”

“I believe I can because I told myself I can.”

We thought about all the things that make us feel peaceful. When we feel peaceful it makes us smile.

Woodpeckers Class Worship Spring 2025
In our class worship, we went on a nature walk and looked at all the things that make the world special to us.
We recorded these on our whiteboards to share with each other in class.
We then coloured in an earth, and wrote down the ways that we will pledge to care for the world.

7.

For this weeks Thought of the Week we discussed the importance of not wasting things. We then talked about the importance of recycling and the fact we don’t always need a brand new piece of paper as we can use the back of scrap paper for some things and that also we can wear second hand clothing as it is better for the environment etc. The children had then brought in lots of items from their recycling bins and we then used these for junk modelling.

9.

Reuben, our Worship Councillor challenged the class to make positive statements about each other following the theme of, ‘We are all one family under the same sky.’

When everyone had written something positive about others, the paper was given back so that the person could read them.  Reuben asked how they felt now that they had read them:
“Happy!”
“Surprised to know what people think about me.”
“Thankful because people said nice things.”
“It made me feel like I was a good person.”

Reuben asked the class to think about what we can do if things go wrong.
Here are some ideas:  give people space, use a Trick Box strategy like “Win, win.”, use a calm corner, say sorry, try to forget what went wrong.

Reuben closed our worship with a prayer:
Dear God,
Thank you for our friends and family.  Help us to be respectful and not to be unkind or argue.
Amen

'Courage is staying to help when you'd rather run away'.

In Peacocks class we listened to 'The Lord is my Shepherd'. As a class we listened carefully to the words and discussed what we thought the message could be. Here are some of our thoughts:
"Telling people to have courage."
"The lord will always be with us."
"To keep going even though things can be tricky."
"Don't stop until you get to the place you are going."
"God is merciful."
"If you pray God will comfort you."
"God is a forgiving person."
