Thought for the week Autumn 2023

12. Mutual respect! That’s what it takes to be friends

Flamingo class have been thinking all about how we show respect to others and our environment. We read a story call ‘Kindness is my Super Power’ and then we reflected on all the things we do each day to show respect. The children came up with lots and lots to add to our respect page in our Worship Book.

11.

This week our thought of the week was ' No act of kindness however small, is ever wasted' and our Worship counsellor chose our activity. He decided that it would be an act of kindness to tidy and clean the classroom.

For every good reason there is to lie, there is a better reason to tell the truth.

For our WOW this week we acted a scenario that happened earlier in the day.

The girls were playing together beautifully.

Then one of the girls pushed her friend off the stage.

The girls said that she didn’t push her friend and that she fell off the stage herself.

We had a conversation together about telling the truth and how we are to be kind to one another.

The girls apologised for pushing and had a group hug. They realised it was better to tell the truth and carried on playing together.

9. Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience

8. Charity should begin at home, but should not stay there

Helping hand:  The children thought about how they can be helpful both at school and at home, showing charity to one another and how to lighten the load of others.

A community flourishes when people plant trees under which they will never sit.

In year R we have been planting different flowers, herbs and trees in our garden. Although these won’t grow until next summer during the holidays, we can’t wait to see hear all about them from the new YR’s coming in September.

6. We don’t need to share the same opinions as others, but we need to be respectful.

Do you have a favourite
outside place where you
can appreciate the
wonder of God’s world?

What do I do to motivate others and myself? What do I do to motivate others and myself?

Year 5 looked closely at motivating sentences this week for thought for the week.

Remember one small way you have shown generosity to one person.

In Woodpeckers, we talked about how it would be impossible to be generous every day to 100 people, but it would be easy to be generous and show random acts of kindness to one person. We read ‘Have you filled a bucket today?’ and we filled our own buckets with things we would do to show kindness to someone.

Is it better to be honest and poor or dishonest and rich?

We used tissue paper to represent a lie. Lies can get out of control and then they are hard to break.

Think of the last time
you gave a gift – how do
you hope you made the
other person feel?

For class worship this week, Peacocks read 'The Giving Tree' about a tree who loves a little boy and who, over time, selflessly gives him her leaves, apples, branches and trunk when he needs them. We talked about who we'd like to give a gift to and why.
