To start our Year 3 RE unit this term 'Why does a Hindu need a sacred space?' the children began with a retrieval lesson about what they can remember about a sacred place for a Christain.  The children visited both St. Barnabas and the Methodist church, with three challenges:

1. Could they tell an adult the key vocabulary of parts of the church?  (For example altar, cross, crucifix, font, lectern, candles and the symbol of light).  

2. Could the children explain how those parts of the church are used?

3. Could the children explain why those parts of the church may be important to a Christian?

They then discussed the similarities and differences between the two churches.

The children's behaviour and respect whilst in both churches was exemplary, and they were able to remember many aspects of a Christian church from their learning in key stage 1!
