“To give each child the gift of a sense of wonder and awe”
At Swanmore we aim to:
-
provide enjoyable opportunities for each child to relate in caring ways to varied environments through first hand experience, making appropriate decisions and responses. We hope this will enhance their understanding, skills and knowledge across all curriculum areas.
-
provide opportunities for adventurous and problem-solving activities, which challenge the children to plan, record and evaluate.
-
provide opportunities for individual times of silence and reflection to enable each child to value a non-material dimension to life.
-
develop each child’s self-awareness, self-confidence, self-esteem, self-control, self-discipline and self-respect.To develop each child’s awareness of being part of a community in which he or she has rights, duties and responsibilities.
-
provide opportunities for each child to work co-operatively and to develop tolerance and respect for other people.
-
encourage each child to use equipment and materials correctly and safely and to be aware of the importance of personal care and safety at all times.
“Do not try to satisfy your vanity by teaching a great many things. Awake people’s curiosity. It is enough to open minds: do not overload them. Put there just a spark. If there is some good inflammable stuff, it will catch fire.”
Anatole France from “The Earth Speaks”
